About Brooklyn Family Dental
Brooklyn Family Dental runs a general practice on Myrtle Avenue in Clinton Hill, in the corridor between Fort Greene and Bedford-Stuyvesant where the brownstone-belt residential blocks meet the everyday neighborhood commerce. The clinic is positioned for the long-term dental relationships local families want — routine cleanings, restorative work, and the day-to-day general dentistry mix delivered by a small enough team that you'll see the same dentist across visits rather than a different one every time.
Routine fillings make up a meaningful share of the schedule, with composite as the default material for most cases. The team handles small single-surface lesions caught at six-month exams, larger multi-surface restorations, replacement work when an old amalgam or composite has cracked, and the diagnostic call between fill-it-now versus monitor-and-revisit. Beyond fillings, services cover cleanings, root canals, crowns and bridges, extractions, gum-disease treatment, and emergency visits. The dentist will show you the cavity on the intraoral camera before treatment so the recommendation is grounded in something you can actually see.
If you've been putting off a dental visit because you've moved between practices in the last few years and don't have a regular dentist, a comprehensive new-patient exam here gets you re-anchored in a single visit.
Patients searching for general dentist near me in Brooklyn, family dentist in Brooklyn, or general dentistry in Brooklyn, NY tend to be picking a long-term practice rather than booking one-off care. Brooklyn Family Dental is set up for that pattern. The new-patient appointment usually combines a comprehensive exam with the diagnostic work needed to plan any restorative treatment that comes back from the X-rays. For Clinton Hill, Fort Greene, and Bedford-Stuyvesant residents looking for a regular general dentist within walking distance of home, this Myrtle Avenue practice is a reasonable place to start a relationship. If you're switching from a chain practice and you've never had a long-term solo or small-group dentist before, the visit pace tends to feel different — slower, more conversational, and often more thorough than the timed-slot model.

Dental Cleaning
Professional dental cleanings remove the plaque and tartar that brushing misses, protecting the gums and giving the dentist a clear chance to spot early decay.
Crowns & Bridges
Crowns and bridges repair and replace damaged or missing teeth — a crown caps a weakened tooth, while a bridge fills the gap left by one or more lost teeth.
Cosmetic Dentistry
Cosmetic dentistry improves the appearance of a smile through treatments such as teeth whitening, addressing color and balance as part of a planned approach.

Emergency dental care addresses urgent problems such as a severe toothache, a broken or knocked-out tooth, and lost fillings, with prompt treatment to relieve pain.

Small and mighty. Supportive and efficient team that felt welcoming.
I don't normally write reviews but this is my second dental cleaning at the practice booked through ZocDoc. The first visit, I booked with Dr. Saad Butt and when I got there I was seen by the other dentist (I assume the one with all the bad reviews). I didn't question it since it was my first time at the practice and maybe the other dentist was out for the day. Six months later, I go back for my cleaning and emailed and called to confirm I would be seen by Dr. Saad since last time I was seen by the other dentist and not told otherwise. They said it would either be Dr. Saad or the other dentist (???). I will say the receptionist was nice and able to accomodate me being early. The dentist (not Dr. Saad) did my cleaning and left my gums torn up and I was spitting up so much blood. I haven't really had any dental issues before so it was alarming. He just let me leave after. I stopped to look in the mirror and my face and neck was covered in blood and he didn't say anything! Will not be returning unfortunately.
Dr. Shin did an amazing job with my cleaning!!! I'm always afraid to go to the dentist because of my gum sensitivity, but that was one of the most painless cleanings, and my teeth look so good afterwards. Looking forward to the next cleaning. He also gave me a second opinion on continuing aligner treatment and is very knowledgeable.
efficient. friendly. have a cavitron and know how to use it. likely takes your insurance plan. in the neighborhood. owner operated. skip the chain dentist down the street.
Outstanding service and experience. I definitely found my NY dentist and will be back in 6 months!
This is my unfortunate experience with Dr. Unchali. In my initial visit, I needed a variety of work that needed to be done: 2 Wisdom teeth by a rec’d oral surgeon, 1 root canal by a rec’d endontist, and 3 cavities to be filled by Dr. Unchali, to be done in that order. After Dr. Unchali gave me the 3 fillings, I had major pain and sensitivity. I was popping Ibuprofen day and night. There was some communication with Dr. Unchali back and forth, “maybe needs adjustment”, etc. As it turns out, the reason why I was in so much pain was because he drilled down too far and touched the nerve, in more than one tooth. So I was given a prescription to go back to the original endontist. The endontist said ALL 3 fillings, actually needed root canals, so I basically had the 3 fillings for nothing! At this point I maxed out my dental coverage and emptied my FSA. Plus I would still need the crowns from Dr. Unchali for the all the root canals and I’m already out of money. I went back to Dr. Unchali and I said please, at least give me a good price for crowns (for his bad fillings mistake) and he said no. He said that I didn’t need the crowns right away, and he would just fill it temporarily and I could come back in 2026 when my insurance kicks in for the crowns. For that I had to pay $300 from my pocket for the temporary fillings. He should have had the experience and knowledge from looking at the x-rays, that fillings were never needed in the first place. I should have been sent straight to the endontist for the root canals from the beginning, but I think he wanted the money for himself to do the fillings instead of outsourcing all the work. It was not responsible and it ended up giving me a lot of pain and wasting money and time. and I’m still in pain. And I forgot to say the first crown I had in his office it fall out after one month , Then I have to come back to do it again ,and I’m still in pain
Ahmed has been my dental hygienist for the past few years and he's the best! He's gentle, attentive, and always talks to me about his observations and changes from my last visit. Going to the dentist is not my favorite activity, so I'm very grateful to have Ahmed treat me. Thank you, Ahmed!
Wow I was blown away by this place! I am afraid of the dentist and hate going so it was a year since my last cleaning. Dr. Terry was so funny and personable, he made me feel completely comfortable and helped me make a plan to take better care of my teeth. He also got a cleaning, X-rays and two fillings done in about 40 mins. It was also very clean, no wait time and affordable compared to some of the other places in NYC. I will 100% be back here and would recommend this place to anyone!
Yassa the hygienist was awesome. She made me feel comfortable, was extremely knowledgeable and she took her time. The doctor saw me for 5 minutes which was perfectly fine with me. The person at the front desk was also very knowledgeable about my insurance and broke down how future appointments and payment/pricing would work. Definitely would recommend this practice to anyone looking for a new dentist.
