About Brooklyn Periodontics and Implantology

Brooklyn Periodontics and Implantology provides dental care on Avenue U in Brooklyn, New York. Implants are considered by many dentists the most durable way to replace a missing tooth, since the titanium post fuses with the jaw bone over several months and then supports a crown that functions much like a natural tooth. Enough healthy bone is the main prerequisite, and a graft can build that up first if needed.

Gum disease treatment ranges from a deeper professional cleaning for early inflammation through to more involved periodontal care once bone around the teeth has started to be affected. Bleeding gums are usually the earliest sign, and the early stage is reversible with proper cleaning and better daily plaque control.

Periodontics is the specialty focused on the gums and the bone supporting the teeth, handling more advanced gum disease, related surgical treatment, and — in many practices — dental implant placement, which sits naturally alongside that training.

Bone grafting rebuilds jaw bone that has shrunk after a tooth has been missing for a while, most often as preparation for a dental implant that needs sufficient volume to anchor into. Healing generally takes several months before further treatment can proceed.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent. My husband recently had periodontal splinting done on his bottom teeth by Dr. Amanda Abrams. It went smoothly and instilled a great sense of confidence knowing we were in extremely capable hands. She clarified the procedure for the both of us and called to follow up later that day. Based on our experience, I highly recommend them!

My husband was examined/evaluated by Dr. Amanda Abrams. His appointment involved X-rays, exam to determine the amount of bone loss in his gums and if saving some of his upper teeth were an option. He did not know what to expect. Dr Abrams and her staff are professional, and the Doctor took the time to explain the procedure he would have, recovery time, etc. What a pleasure it was to meet Doctor Abrams! My husband is in excellent hands, and I recommend Doctor Abrams and her staff very highly.... you will not be disappointed!
