About Cypress Bend Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

A surgeon who trained for six years after dental school handles a different category of problem than the office that cleans your teeth. Cypress Bend Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery on Rue Bastille in south Lafayette exists for those cases: impacted wisdom teeth, teeth fractured too far below the gum to be pulled conventionally, jaws that meet incorrectly at the skeletal level, TMJ pain that has not responded to conservative care, facial injuries, and the bone grafting that makes implant placement possible in a ridge that has already resorbed. Referrals come from general dentists, orthodontists and emergency departments.

Most people booking a first consultation are really trying to work out how much intervention their situation needs. Not every impacted third molar has to come out. One that is fully covered by bone, causing no symptoms and not damaging the second molar can sometimes be monitored, although surgical recovery gets harder with age and the roots grow closer to the nerve over time. TMJ complaints run the same way in reverse, with splint therapy, physical therapy and bite adjustment coming well before any surgical option is considered. A consultation with imaging should tell you which category you fall into, and a surgeon who advises waiting is giving you real information rather than a soft no.

Dr. Justin B. Stanford owns the practice. A Louisiana native, he earned his dental degree at LSU School of Dentistry and completed a six-year oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the University of Florida, training that covered orthognathic surgery, TMJ, anesthesia, paediatric cases, implantology, oral pathology, facial trauma, wisdom tooth removal, bone grafting and advanced dentoalveolar procedures. Anesthesia sits inside that residency, which is why office-based surgery under sedation is standard in this specialty rather than an added-on service.

The office opens at 7:30am every weekday and closes at 5pm early in the week, 4:30pm on Thursday and 1pm on Friday, a schedule shaped around morning surgical blocks, so expect the first appointments offered to be early ones. Rue Bastille is tucked into the River Ranch side of south Lafayette, convenient for patients from Youngsville and Broussard and less so if you are coming from north of I-10 during traffic. If your dentist referred you, ask for the panoramic or 3D image to be sent across ahead of the visit; it often spares you a repeat scan at the surgical consultation.

Cypress Bend Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery on Rue Bastille handles impacted wisdom teeth, complex and surgical extractions, bone grafting for implant sites, TMJ and facial pain, facial trauma and corrective jaw surgery. Dr. Justin B. Stanford, a Louisiana native, trained at LSU School of Dentistry and completed a six-year surgical residency at the University of Florida covering anesthesia, orthognathic surgery, implantology and oral pathology. Referrals come from general dentists and orthodontists; weekday mornings start at 7:30am.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do wisdom teeth that are not hurting have to come out?
Not automatically. A third molar fully covered by bone, causing no symptoms and not damaging the second molar in front of it can sometimes be monitored with periodic imaging. The counter-argument is age: roots lengthen toward the nerve over time and healing slows, so removal at forty is a harder recovery than at twenty. A consultation with imaging should tell you which of those situations applies to you.
What training does the surgeon at this practice have?
Dental school first, then a hospital-based surgical residency. Dr. Justin B. Stanford earned his dental degree at LSU School of Dentistry and completed a six-year residency at the University of Florida covering orthognathic surgery, TMJ, anesthesia, paediatric care, implantology, oral pathology, facial trauma, wisdom tooth removal, bone grafting and advanced dentoalveolar procedures. The anesthesia training inside that residency is why office-based sedation is standard across this specialty.
Is surgery the first answer for TMJ pain?
Rarely. Conservative measures come first for most jaw joint problems, including splint therapy, physiotherapy, bite adjustment and managing clenching habits, and a large share of patients improve without an operation at all. A surgical consultation is still worth having, because imaging distinguishes a muscular problem from a structural one inside the joint. A surgeon who recommends waiting and treating conservatively is giving you a genuine answer.

I’m getting all four of my wisdom teeth removed tomorrow morning at Cypress Bend Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and I just wanted to say how comfortable and prepared they’ve made me feel leading up to it. From the consultation to the instructions they gave me, everything has been explained clearly so I know exactly what to expect. From my experience so far, the staff has been extremely kind, professional, and reassuring. They’ve explained everything and made sure I understand what to expect, which has honestly helped calm a lot of my nerves. Even before surgery, I already feel like I’m in good hands. Everything has been organized and smooth, and I really appreciate how comfortable they’ve made this process for me.

Lacey was super friendly and made my visit comfortable and even fun. My experience at this office has always been a 10 out of 10. All of the staff has always been helpful and they take their time to explain and ensure that I understood every step of the way. They answer all questions and address any concerns with genuine empathy. I actually look forward to coming up the office for the positive and enjoyable experience. The doctor is really quite awesome himself. I have and will continue to recommend this office to anyone and everyone that may need a referral. Thank you for everything and look forward to next time.

It’s not an exaggeration when I say Dr. Standford saved my life. I cannot express how grateful I am to everyone at Cypress Bend and I highly recommend them if you need oral surgery. The staff are very personable, while remaining professional. Their communication is phenomenal, both in person and post-procedure - shoutout to Ava for keeping me informed with everything I needed to know. I highly recommend Cypress Bend.

My wife and I recently had oral surgery here with Dr. Justin Stanford. The staff was absolutely amazing! Ava was great helping to set everything up, providing clear communication before procedures, and making sure we were comfortable and well taken care of. She treats everyone with such sweet courtesy. Dr. Justin and his staff are remarkable professionals. They were empathetic, listened to our concerns and took excellent care of us both. A follow up text was provided with feedback to check on our well being. I would recommend this facility to anyone needing oral surgery but fear of being in the dentist's chair is stopping you. Go. They make everything run smoothly and you are well taken care of. 5 stars.

My experience at Cypress Bend Oral Surgery was absolutely amazing from start to finish! The level of care I received was exceptional. Everyone I interacted with was kind, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in making sure I felt at ease. Dr. Stanford took the time to answer my questions, explain everything clearly, and made the entire experience feel much less intimidating. Huge shoutout to the entire crew for making everything so smooth and stress-free. I had my wisdom teeth removed earlier today, and I honestly feel AMAZING! What I expected to be a difficult experience turned into such a smooth and comforting one. They made the whole process feel like a walk in the park. I’m incredibly grateful for the care I received and would highly recommend Cypress Bend Oral Surgery to anyone needing oral surgery or wisdom teeth removal!
