About Dallas Functional Dentistry
Dallas Functional Dentistry provides dental care on Douglas Avenue in the Park Cities area of Dallas, Texas. Holistic, or biological, dentistry applies standard dental diagnosis and treatment within an approach that emphasises material choice and conservative treatment, considering oral health as connected to the body more broadly rather than treating the mouth in isolation.
Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.
Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.
Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.
Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.
Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts. Great dentist!
Highly professional and talented. Best technology cleaning system ensuring deep cleans with no irritating scraping and picking so typical of all competitors. If you have teeth, this is the place they need to go.
Fantastic dentist and team. Highly recommend for all your dental needs!!!!!!
Always great!
I had a wonderful appointment. April was so sweet and did a great job. I really like their holistic approach to Dentistry and whole body integration.
Saw me punctually. Cleaning was thorough and painless. Dr Poteet saw me. She was complementary of my progress and offered several new tips and directions. Was out in less than an hour and felt pretty positive about the appointment.
I've had a headache for 2 days & have taken 3 doses of medication to help relieve it & nothing!! However, spending 15 mins with Tiffany's skilled hands using Dr. Tevis's laser...... my headache is gone! Seriously grateful! Can't wait to share the benefits of this laser pain management treatment with my friends and family who suffer from TMD pains as well! Extraordinary therapy that made an impact immediately for me.
Dallas Functional Dentistry goes above and beyond for their patients! I had an emergency appointment and was seen within the hour. I highly recommend them to all my friends and family. Thank you again!!!
Edit 08/27/25: The practice manager, Carrie, personally reached out to me after seeing this review. She was very apologetic after hearing the call, professional, and transparent about how the issue was handled. She also clarified their insurance policy: patients pay up front, and then insurance reimburses. Carrie invited me to tour the office and even offered a complimentary service as a goodwill gesture. I appreciate the quick follow-up and accountability. While my initial experience was frustrating, management took ownership and made it clear they want to do right by their patients. If I decide to book again, I’ll be communicating directly with Carrie! ⸻ ⭐ Original Review (posted 08/26/25): I contacted this office because I scheduled a dentist appointment for 09/17 at 7:30 AM through their website on 07/23/25. Normally, online requests are followed up with a confirmation call or email, but I never heard back. When I called on 08/26 to confirm, my experience wasn’t great: 1. First call was hung up before being answered. 2. Second call, the receptionist answered with silence until I said “hello,” and did not identify the business by name. 3. They could not find my appointment, but referenced someone else’s patient record (a March visit that wasn’t mine), without verifying my identity—concerning from a privacy standpoint. 4. After treating me as a new patient, they asked for my insurance, only to then state they don’t accept any insurance. Overall, in a ten-minute call I experienced multiple red flags and left with more doubts than answers.
