About Dental Health Associates of Madison - Downtown Clinic
Dental Health Associates of Madison – Downtown Clinic is at suite 201, 44 East Mifflin Street in Madison — a location in the heart of downtown Madison, one block from the Wisconsin State Capitol building. Dental Health Associates of Madison was founded in 1969 by a group of five dentists who saw the clinical benefit of providing a complete range of dental services under one roof rather than as solo practitioners referring across the city. More than fifty years later, the DHA group practice model continues at this East Mifflin Street address and multiple additional Madison locations.
NightLase is listed alongside sleep apnea treatment, bruxism management, and periodontics — a distinctive clinical combination at a downtown Madison group practice. NightLase is a Fotona Er:YAG laser treatment for snoring and mild obstructive sleep apnea that contracts the soft palate tissue through controlled photothermal heating. Combined with oral appliance sleep apnea therapy, this downtown Madison practice offers multiple complementary modalities for sleep-disordered breathing — a clinical range that distinguishes DHA from single-modality sleep apnea management providers.
The multi-dentist group structure established in 1969 provides clinical depth across orthodontics, endodontics, periodontics, and paediatric dentistry within one practice — the concept Drs. Buchanan and O'Brien saw was needed in Madison's dental market half a century ago. For downtown Madison patients who work in the Capitol complex, State Street corridor, or University of Wisconsin medical campus, the East Mifflin Street location provides full-scope dental care in the city's geographic and governmental centre.
Orthodontics including braces and Invisalign, endodontics, periodontics, and sedation dentistry round out the comprehensive scope. Emergency dentistry covers the acute presentations for downtown Madison's dense workday and resident population.
For downtown Madison, Capitol Square, and State Street patients on East Mifflin Street who want a multi-specialist group practice with NightLase, sleep apnea treatment, orthodontics, and periodontics founded in 1969, DHA's suite 201 at 44 East Mifflin Street provides that combination.
In 1969, a group of five dentists, led by Drs. Daro A. Buchanan and Richard O’Brien, formed Dental Health Associates of Madison (DHA). Both dentists were single practitioners for 15 years, but saw the need for a complete range of services at a single location. Since DHA’s inception in the late 1960’s, the concept of dentists joining together has provided many benefits for both the patients and the practitioners. As a group, our dentists recognize that peer review and shared consultation, as well

The entire staff was friendly and very competent and professional. Easy parking too

Excellent help for u expected mouth pain. Smart and friendly.
Very happy with the attention and service.
My favorite ever dental hygienist, she's so gentle and methodical with regular cleanings. The dentist is good, too!
I needed evaluation & advice on how to heal a tongue wound. Dental Health was great. Friendly, kind, & good suggestions on what to do.
The staff is always helpful and pleasant. I trust Dr. Killian and have been going to him for my dental care for years and years.
I’ve been a patient at Dental Health Associate’s Capitol Square office for several years. I like the friendliness of all the staff and especially how Dr Killian communicates clearly. They keep my teeth healthy and I appreciate their efforts for me very much.
Very professional care and of excellent quality. I had not gone to the dentist in some time and Melba did a phenomenal job as my hygienist; probably the best I have ever had. Dr. Killian also answered my questions and was able to arrange for a good plan of care. Beautiful office as well. I would recommend!
I have been here twice and both were terrible. They always want to up sell by telling me that I need deep cleaning and refuse to do general cleaning even I requested. Most insurance don’t cover deep cleaning and I’ll have to pay out of pocket for $1400. They always need 2 appointments: 1 for exam and 1 for cleaning, if they ever agree to do cleaning at all. They want to double charge my insurance. For other dental offices, you only need to come once, and they’ll do exam and cleaning for you, same day, no need to visit the second time, and your insurance is only billed once.
Compassionate care! As a nervous dental patient, I was so appreciative of the compassion Dr Killian & his assistant at DHA gave during recent dental work. From the front desk to the hygenists, everyone in the downtown office, gives a welcoming & helpful experience. Highly recommend!
I really hate going to the dentist. I know that's a pretty universal thing, but I get such bad anxiety that I'm physically shaking halfway through. In the past, I've gone literal years without dental care after negative experiences that made me feel like my dental anxiety was an annoyance that dentists just didn't want to accomodate. I hate going to dental health associates, but they make the experience bearable enough that I keep my regular appointments. Dr. Killian is kind and patient, he checks in regularly to see if I need a break. All of the hygienists I've had have been wonderful too. They are considerate to the point where I can cope with my dislike of being there. I genuinely trust that they will do everything they can to make the experience less awful, and I never feel judged or looked down on.
