About Flatbush Family Dentistry

Flatbush Family Dentistry sits on Flatbush Avenue, the long commercial corridor that runs through the heart of central Brooklyn. The practice handles general dentistry for the surrounding Flatbush residential community — a multi-cultural mix of Caribbean, African American, and longtime resident households where the practice's role is to be the regular dental anchor rather than a specialty-driven referral funnel.

Routine fillings are one of the more common visits. The team uses tooth-colored composite as the default material, with single-surface and multi-surface restorations, replacement fillings when older work has failed, and the practical call between filling and crown depending on tooth structure. Beyond fillings, services span cleanings, root canals for cases where decay has reached the nerve, crowns and bridges, extractions, gum-disease screening, teeth whitening, and emergency dental visits. They'll be straight about whether a borderline cavity needs filling now or can be safely watched at the next recall — the conservative call keeps patients in fewer chair visits over time.

If you've been told to wait three weeks for an appointment elsewhere and you can't, a closer practice on Flatbush Avenue often has shorter scheduling windows for new patients.

Patients searching for affordable family dental care in Brooklyn, family dentist in Brooklyn, or general dentistry in Brooklyn, NY who live in Flatbush, Prospect-Lefferts Gardens, or East Flatbush often choose practices on the Flatbush Avenue corridor for the central location and routine availability. The new-patient exam typically combines comprehensive X-rays, periodontal screening, and a treatment-plan review before any restorative work is scheduled. For central Brooklyn families looking for a regular general dental practice within walking distance of home or the bus line, this Flatbush Avenue clinic is a reasonable place to start a dental relationship. Brooklyn dental capacity tightens and loosens by season — if the practice isn't accepting new patients on first call, asking about a waitlist position is worth the two minutes before moving on to other options.

Based on Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn, New York, Flatbush Family Dentistry provides cosmetic dentistry and root canal treatment alongside routine dental care. The practice is open Monday through Saturday. Contact details and a full list of services are on this page.

What days is Flatbush Family Dentistry open?
Flatbush Family Dentistry is open Monday through Saturday. Contact the practice through this page to confirm current appointment times before travelling.
What services does Flatbush Family Dentistry offer?
Listed services at Flatbush Family Dentistry include Cosmetic Dentistry, Root Canal Treatment, Emergency Dentistry, Dental Crowns and Dental Bridges. The full list is shown on this page.
Can a filling fall out?
Yes, and it is reasonably common, usually from decay developing underneath, from chewing something hard, or simply from age. A lost filling leaves the tooth exposed, so it should be looked at before the cavity gets deeper.
How often should I get my teeth cleaned?
Every six months suits most people, which is why check-ups tend to be scheduled that way. If you have gum disease, smoke, or are prone to a heavy build-up of tartar, a dentist may recommend coming in every three or four months instead.
What is the difference between a regular cleaning and a deep cleaning?
A regular cleaning removes plaque and tartar from the tooth surface at and just above the gumline. A deep cleaning, or scaling and root planing, goes beneath the gumline to clean the root surfaces, and is recommended when gum disease has created pockets around the teeth.

The dentist was trying to convince me to pay thousands of dollars for a service that was pre-approved and 100% covered by my insurance. I politely declined because my insurance was paying for all services rendered by her. She acknowledged that she knew that the insurance company would pay for everything, but while she was fixing my tooth she randomly told me to never come back there again. I was honestly shocked and confused because I been there several times and it was always a pleasant interaction. Extremely rude.

This lady. Is rude and dismissive. The main doctor. She rushed me and didn’t care about my questions. Passive and waved me off as if she didn’t understand what I was saying. I’m not sure if it was because it’s all female staff. Or maybe they had a bad day. But the doctor wasn’t pleasant. Maybe, because I was man. But I still think about it. It’s been two months almost. I hate unnecessary passive behavior… it was exhibited the whole time and she didn’t listen to not a single concern and got no advice. She’s a slim Indian woman. Very unpleasant.

I had an appointment and still waited around 45 minutes after being brought into the room. During this time, staff were moving between patients, and it felt like the schedule was not well managed. The front desk staff were very polite and professional, and I appreciated their attitude when I checked out. However, my recent experiences with treatment felt rushed. My cleaning last week was very quick (around 5–10 minutes) and uncomfortable, which made me concerned about the quality of care. Overall, while the staff are kind, the scheduling and treatment experience did not meet my expectations. I will be looking for another dental provider going forward and hope the clinic can improve time management and patient care for future patients. — Abdul Shafiq
