About Johnson Family Dentistry

Johnson Family Dentistry provides dental care on North Roxboro Street in Durham, North Carolina. Implants are considered by many dentists the most durable way to replace a missing tooth, since the titanium post fuses with the jaw bone over several months and then supports a crown that functions much like a natural tooth. Enough healthy bone is the main prerequisite, and a graft can build that up first if needed.

A veneer is a thin custom shell bonded to the front of a tooth to change its shape, length, or colour, most often used to address chips, gaps, or discoloration that whitening alone cannot fix. Traditional veneers require a small amount of enamel to be removed, which makes the change permanent.

Cosmetic treatment is generally the least invasive branch of dentistry, built around changing how teeth look rather than fixing something broken. Whitening and bonding sit at the lighter end; veneers and reshaping involve more planning. Most cosmetic dental insurance excludes this kind of work, since it is elective rather than medically necessary.

Emergency dental care covers sudden problems that will not wait for a routine appointment — severe pain, a knocked-out or fractured tooth, swelling, or a lost filling that leaves a tooth exposed. Same-day or urgent appointments are the point of an emergency service, rather than the standard multi-week booking window.

Professional teeth whitening uses a peroxide-based gel, applied under supervision at a strength stronger than anything sold over the counter, to lift years of staining from coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco. It works on natural enamel only — existing crowns, veneers, and fillings keep whatever shade they were made in.

A family dental practice sees a range of ages under one roof, which for most households means fewer separate appointments across different offices. It typically covers routine checkups and restorative treatment for both children and adults, with referrals out for anything requiring specialist training. Dr. Johnson and his team are total professionals and a joy to visit. I left his office feeling confident that I had an effective cleaning and a true expert's consultation of my dental health. Also, his dental assistant is completely hilarious! 10/10 recommend these folks.

Went to Dr. Johnson today for some extractions and a bridge. I was dreading it so much. Dr. Johnson and Dana made sure I was comfortable with a throw and pillow. The way they treated me could not have been any better. It was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. The whole staff are friendly and caring.

I used to have a phobia about dental work and dentists. My parents recommended Dr. Johnson and it has been such a good experience. The whole staff is funny, laid back (in a positive way) and nonjudgmental, which is perfect if you have anxiety about dental work. I honestly cannot say enough positive things about this dentist and staff.

Dr Johnson is a great dentist & a nice young man. I met him during an implant & was nervous about someone new (to me) doing the crown. The work is now complete & I am very happy with my final results. I can recommend Dr Johnson without reservation.

I have been going to this dentist office since I was a kid. The service is excellent and everyone on staff is so friendly. Tammy has cleaned my teeth for many years. She is great at cleaning and helping me with any problem spots, and is pleasant to talk to during my appointments. Dr. Johnson is friendly and very thorough when checking my teeth. The staff remembers me every time I come in and is flexible with appointments or changes to appointments. I have gone to the dentist during the COVID-19 Pandemic, after they were allowed to re-open. I was pleased with their cleanliness and process of taking temperatures of every worker and customer that entered the office. The hygienists all wore two masks and a face shield, along with gloves and disposable scrubs. I felt very safe having my teeth cleaned here.

Following my first full visit and some repair work with Dr. Johnson, I highly recommend the practice. Everyone in the office is friendly and they manage to produce a light, fun-filled atmosphere. Not many of us look forward to trips to the dentist, but this practice makes it seem like you are being cared for by friends. The procedure I had done was completed professionally and in under an hour. I was asked repeatedly if I was comfortable and they did everything they could to make it pain and stress free. I’m happy I found them.

I did have my reservations about a new dentist, but I must say I do really really do like Dr. Johnson. He very nice and charming, he does seem to sincerely care about his patients. It helps that I have known the rest of his staff for many, many years (they are all wonderful!) I had a lot of extensive work this morning, and Dr. Johnson explained everything; my choices, what he was doing, the reason why and I was never in pain. He gave me choices keeping my budget and time in mind. I am really very pleased with my new dentist Dr. Johnson. Dawn M.
