About Nyc Family Dental Care

Nyc Family Dental Care runs a Mermaid Avenue practice in Coney Island, the southern peninsula neighborhood where the boardwalk and amusement district give way to residential blocks with a working-class mix. The clinic is set up for everyday general dentistry — cleanings, exams, fillings, crowns, and the routine restorative work that local families need on a recurring basis without the chain feel that bigger downtown practices sometimes carry.

Routine fillings are one of the more common visits. The team handles tooth-colored composite restorations as the default, single-surface fillings for early-stage decay, larger multi-surface work for cases that have been left longer, and replacement fillings when an older restoration has failed. They'll walk through whether a filling will hold or whether the tooth has lost enough structure to need a crown instead — the structural call matters more than the patient's preference for a cheaper fix, because a filling that fails six months later costs more in the long run. Beyond fillings, services include cleanings, root canals, crowns, bridges, extractions, and emergency dental care.

If you've been putting off a recall because money's been tight, an honest exam will tell you what genuinely needs attention now versus what can safely wait six months without getting worse.

Patients searching for routine dental care in Brooklyn, affordable family dental care in Brooklyn, or general dentistry in Brooklyn, NY who live in Coney Island, Brighton Beach, or Sea Gate often prefer staying south of the borough rather than driving up to Downtown Brooklyn for routine work. Nyc Family Dental Care fits that geography. The new-patient exam covers comprehensive X-rays, periodontal screening, and a treatment-plan review before any restorative work gets booked. For southern Brooklyn families picking a regular general dentist close to home, this Mermaid Avenue practice is a reasonable first stop. It's worth asking whether the practice files insurance directly or expects payment up front and reimbursement separately, because the answer materially shifts how much you pay out of pocket on the visit day.

At what age should a child first see a dentist?
Guidance generally points to the first birthday, or within six months of the first tooth appearing. Early visits are mostly about getting a child comfortable in the chair and catching problems while they are still small, rather than about treatment.
Can the whole family be seen at the same practice?
That is exactly what a family practice is set up for — treating a range of ages in one place rather than sending children elsewhere. For most households the practical benefit is fewer separate appointments in different locations.
Can you get a cavity between teeth?
Yes, and it is common, which is why flossing matters and why dentists take X-rays. Decay between teeth is invisible to the eye until it is well advanced, so it is frequently found on an X-ray first.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Konovalov for 3 years and had my implant done last year. The whole process was smooth and comfortable, and my crown was placed in January with great results. The doctor is truly amazing, and the staff is always friendly and professional. I’ve already recommended him to my friends 100% highly recommend 👌🏻

I am writing on behalf of my mother. She is unable to do so herself; she is 94 years old and suffers from dementia. Moreover, she firmly believes she has no health issues whatsoever. We have visited this doctor twice. (His office is located close to her home, which is very convenient) Our first visit took place a couple of years ago. The purpose was to determine whether my mother required any dental treatment. He took X-rays and briefly outlined what he believed needed to be done (I didn't fully grasp the details, as I am not a dentist). He told us he would call once he received a response from the insurance provider. Several weeks went by, and he did not call. So, I called him instead. As it turned out, they had already received the response from the insurance company—along with their own proposed treatment plan—and apparently, they had had them for quite some time. He informed us that the insurance provider (Liberty, through Anthem) had denied coverage for everything, and that he expected us to pay $8,000–$10,000 out of pocket for the work. Since my mother hadn't complained about her teeth, we decided to simply leave things as they were. We went for a second visit three weeks ago. Mom’s crown—which was anchored to four teeth—had fallen off. I told him that we needed to have it cemented back on immediately, since she couldn't eat, and that whatever else he felt needed to be done, he should plan out and schedule for a later time. He said he would submit a claim to the insurance company, as that was a necessary step. When I asked why he couldn't simply re-cement the dislodged piece right then and there—and wait for the insurance company's response afterward— he began offering some vague explanation (I didn't really follow it; after all, I'm not a dentist). He told me that the response would take about a week and that he would give me a call. Three weeks have passed as of today. I actually received the rejection notice from the insurance company two weeks ago—though, again, I'm not a dentist. Today, I took a closer look at the rejection notice; it turns out that the doctor's request focused entirely on my lower jaw. Yet the crown that had fallen out was from my mother upper jaw. It’s no wonder they denied the claim—we also don't want to treat issues that aren't causing any trouble until the actual problem causing the discomfort has been resolved. I called them today, and they told me: "You’ve been rejected." I asked, "Why didn't you call me about this two weeks ago?" And they replied, "Well, did you have your teeth pulled?" I was taken aback and said, "I’m not a dentist—that’s precisely why I came to you." They told me, "We’ll call you back in 10 minutes." It is now four hours later, and knowing that their office going to be closed for the day in few minutes, I am writing this report. I have no idea where he gets so many positive reviews; presumably, they come from people who chose to pay out of their own pockets—those without insurance, or something along those lines. In my opinion, doctors like him shouldn't be working with the public at all; they belong in prison. That is where inmates need dental work and crowns—and that is exactly where dentists of this ilk would be right at home. He may well be a skilled professional, but as a human being... (though I’m not sure he even deserves to be called one). I wouldn't shake his hand.
