About Southwest Brooklyn Dental Practice, PLLC

Southwest Brooklyn Dental Practice runs a 54th Street office in Sunset Park, in the densely residential corridor below the elevated subway lines where Mexican, Chinese, and longtime Italian and Polish family communities anchor the neighborhood. The practice handles general dentistry for that demographic mix — routine cleanings, fillings, crowns, and the day-to-day restorative work that fits a regular dental relationship across multiple cultural communities.

Cavity work covers the routine general-dentistry range. The team uses tooth-colored composite as the default material, with single-surface fillings, multi-surface restorations, replacement fillings when older work has failed, and the call between filling and crown when tooth structure has been compromised. Beyond fillings, services include cleanings and exams, root canals for cases where decay has reached the pulp, crowns and bridges, extractions, gum-disease screening, and emergency dental care. The team will walk through treatment-plan options in plain language rather than dropping technical jargon, which matters more in a community where English is often the second language.

If you've been postponing dental work because the previous practice didn't explain things clearly, a comprehensive new-patient exam at a community-aware office usually walks through the diagnostic in language that fits how you actually talk about teeth.

Patients searching for routine dental care in Brooklyn, family dentist in Brooklyn, or affordable family dental care in Brooklyn who live in Sunset Park, Bay Ridge, or Borough Park often choose practices like this one for the neighborhood proximity and the cultural fit. Southwest Brooklyn fits that pattern. The new-patient exam combines comprehensive radiographs, periodontal screening, and a treatment-plan walkthrough before any restorative work is scheduled. For Sunset Park and surrounding-area families picking a regular dental practice, this 54th Street office is a reasonable first appointment. Bringing prior X-rays and treatment records from a previous dentist usually saves a redundant imaging round at the new-patient exam and gives the team baseline context to compare against current findings.

Can a filling fall out?
Yes, and it is reasonably common, usually from decay developing underneath, from chewing something hard, or simply from age. A lost filling leaves the tooth exposed, so it should be looked at before the cavity gets deeper.
Do I need a filling if my tooth does not hurt?
Often, yes. Decay does not cause pain until it gets close to the nerve, so a cavity found on an X-ray or during an examination is usually painless at that stage. Treating it early is what keeps it from turning into a root canal later.
What is the difference between a regular cleaning and a deep cleaning?
A regular cleaning removes plaque and tartar from the tooth surface at and just above the gumline. A deep cleaning, or scaling and root planing, goes beneath the gumline to clean the root surfaces, and is recommended when gum disease has created pockets around the teeth.

This got to be the WORST ORTHODONTIST OFFICE EVER. This office has gone completely downhill over time. They clearly do not have enough orthodontists, and because of that, the entire process moves at an extremely slow pace. One time, I was called in almost an hour late for my brace's appointment, with no explanation or apology. Once you’re finally seen, and the staff seems tired, disorganized and unprepared. There is absolutely no respect for patients’ time, which is incredibly frustrating when you schedule an appointment and still end up waiting forever. Overall, the service is unprofessional, inefficient, and disappointing. I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere if you value your time and patience, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOUR PAYING FULL PRICE FOR YOUR THE BRACES.

the wait times are genuinely pathetic, like there were a couple of instances where i was left unattended in the dental room for more than 15 minutes, and other times there were instances where i’ve had to wait to go get called to go to the dental room for more than an hour, and that’s genuinely unacceptable. they should genuinely be concerned and hire more dental staff.
