About TBHC Dentistry, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

TBHC Dentistry, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery operates as the dental department of The Brooklyn Hospital Center on Ashland Place in Fort Greene. The format combines general dentistry with surgical specialty services in a hospital setting — routine cleanings and fillings happen in the same department that handles complex extractions, oral cancer management, and pre-implant surgical preparation. That integration means complex cases get continuity that's harder to find in private practice.

For general-dentistry patients, the department handles cleanings, exams, tooth-colored composite fillings, crowns, root canals, basic extractions, and gum-disease screening alongside the more complex surgical caseload. The hospital format is most relevant for patients with medical complexity that affects surgical or restorative planning — anticoagulant management, cardiac clearance for procedures, immunosuppression, or oral pathology cases that benefit from coordinated medical-surgical-dental review under one institution.

If your dentist has flagged a tooth for extraction but the case is more complicated than a private practice can manage — multiple medical clearances, sedation needs, oncology context — a hospital-based oral surgery department is the appropriate referral target.

Patients searching for general dentist near me in Brooklyn, family dentist in Brooklyn, or general dentistry in Brooklyn, NY with meaningful medical complexity often end up at hospital-based dental departments for the integrated coordination. TBHC's Fort Greene location fits that pattern. Routine general-dentistry visits are also available, though the format means longer intake processes and scheduling tied to hospital systems. For Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, and Downtown Brooklyn patients with medical-complex dental needs or those referred for surgical specialty work, this Ashland Place hospital department is the appropriate clinical setting for both routine general-dentistry visits and complex surgical or medically integrated care under one institutional roof. It's worth asking whether the practice files insurance directly or expects payment up front and reimbursement separately, because the answer materially shifts how much you pay out of pocket on the visit day.

Can gum disease make you lose teeth?
Yes — advanced gum disease is a leading cause of tooth loss in adults. It destroys the bone and fibres holding teeth in place, which is why teeth eventually loosen, and it usually progresses without pain.
Why do my gums bleed even though I brush twice a day?
Bleeding usually reflects where you are cleaning rather than how often. Plaque left along the gumline and between teeth causes inflammation there, which is exactly the area brushing alone tends to miss, so flossing or interdental brushes matter.
Will whitening work on crowns or veneers?
No. Whitening acts on natural enamel only, so crowns, veneers, and tooth-coloured fillings keep whatever shade they were made in. If you have visible dental work at the front, whitening the teeth around it can create a mismatch worth planning for in advance.

Needs to focus on the urgent needs of the patient while moving forward in a positive light with a sense of urgency. When you know better you will be able to do better while ingauging to exceed to patients Needs as well as the requirements for your clinical director over you. I'm disappointed with the process however I'm here to finish what I started.lets agree to disagree and just get through this messy process

This is my first visit with Dr. Benjamin Babaev and I was impressed by his friendliness and he excellent. So patient and kind I was very scared because my blood pressure was high but he made me feel very comfortable. He removed tooth during my visit. He was quick, efficient & made sure I was completely comfortable before he began the removal. Thanks for all stuff in TBHC 👌they were friendly

Contrary to what many reviewers have to say about this place, I have nothing but positive. I want to extend my gratitude to 3 amazing professionals that made sure my tooth extraction went smoothly with no pain/discomfort. My experience there today was nothing less than great. Katina (aka Kat) made me feel so comfortable from doing my x-rays to preparing me for my procedure. You could tell they were a bit short staffed but that did not affect their performance at all. Dr Ben made me very relaxed with his extremely friendly and caring demeanor. He explained everything that was happening and my next steps. His colleague Dr Pallas was very comforting as well. They both have great bedside manners that’s for certain. Together all 3 made my experience incredibly smooth.

Dr Kazi and Dr Ro were great, fast, efficient, made me feel comfortable. It was over in 5-10 min. It was for a wisdom tooth removal with NO SEDATION. I was so scared and they were very reassuring. 10/10 will recommend

Dr. Kazi I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Kazi and the oral surgery team at The Brooklyn Hospital Center. From start to finish, the quality of care I received was nothing short of exceptional. During a moment when I felt incredibly vulnerable, Dr. Kazi’s dedication to my care was truly outstanding. The moment he was needed, he came immediately and stepped right into action, taking complete control of the situation to ensure I was handled with the utmost gentleness and precision. His swift responsiveness and calm, professional demeanor instantly put me at ease. To Dr. Kazi and the entire team: thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your skill is undeniable, but it is your genuine compassion and humanity that I will never forget. You turned a stressful situation into a deeply positive experience, and I am incredibly grateful for the wonderful care you provided.
