About The Hershman Group Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

The Hershman Group Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery provides dental care on 65th Street in Brooklyn, New York. Wisdom teeth are removed when they are impacted, repeatedly infected, decayed, or damaging the tooth in front, since they arrive last and often into a jaw with no room left. Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out — one that erupts cleanly and can be kept clean is often left alone.

Oral surgery covers procedures beyond routine treatment — surgical extractions including impacted wisdom teeth, implant placement, and bone grafting among the more common ones. The distinguishing feature is generally that tissue is opened and closed as part of the procedure, rather than treated at the surface.

TMJ treatment addresses pain, clicking, or restricted movement in the jaw joint, often linked to teeth grinding, clenching, injury, or stress. A custom night guard is the most common starting point, reducing strain on the joint and surrounding muscles.

Oral and maxillofacial surgery covers surgical conditions of the face, jaw, and mouth, from wisdom teeth and jaw realignment through to facial trauma and reconstruction, carried out by surgeons trained in both dentistry and surgery.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave. Being carried in good hands, never had to wait, from the moment you stepping in till the moment you walk out you're being taking care of. Love it.

Dr. Hershman, his father, and the entire staff were absolutely wonderful. From the consultation to the procedure itself, everyone was so kind, caring, and professional. Both Dr. Hershman and his father made me feel comfortable and well taken care of every step of the way. I had two wisdom teeth extracted, and the experience was much smoother than I ever expected. What really stood out to me was the genuine care they showed — the same night of my procedure, Dr. Hershman personally called me to check how I was feeling. That level of kindness and attention meant so much to me. I’m beyond grateful for the amazing treatment and compassion I received. Highly recommend this wonderful office to anyone looking for outstanding care!

Dr. Hirschman is truly one of a kind. From the moment they parked my car-wherever they took it!-until I left the building, the entire experience was pure VIP. The level of service was incredibly impressive, yet warm and homey at the same time. Dr. Hirschman is not only an expert oral surgeon, but also someone who genuinely cares about his patients. During the procedure, I didn't feel a thing-it was very, very fine and smooth. He made sure I was comfortable the whole time. The follow-up care was outstanding-they called to check in, made sure I had the right medications, and handled everything I needed in between. The staff are amazing-such beautiful people. No attitude, just very, very fine and kind individuals who make you feel comfortable and taken care of from the start. It was truly a beautiful experience from beginning to end. Highly recommended!

I recently brought my child to Dr. Hershman's office for an extraction, and I was blown away by the level of care and professionalism. From the moment we walked in, the entire team was incredibly friendly, warm, and attentive. Both Dr. Hershman Sr. and Dr. Hershman Jr. took the time to explain every step to my child, ensuring they were comfortable and calm throughout the entire process. The personal touch they bring to their work is unmatched. You can tell they genuinely care about their patients and take pride in maintaining the highest standards. It's no surprise they have such an amazing reputation in the community—they truly deserve it! I can’t thank them enough for turning what could have been a stressful experience into something positive. If you're looking for a dental practice that goes above and beyond, this is the place to go. Highly recommend!
