About Dental Specialists of NY - Sunset Park

Dental Specialists of NY - Sunset Park operates on 48th Street in Brooklyn, New York. Dentures replace some or all of the natural teeth in a jaw with a removable appliance, custom-fitted to the mouth. A full denture replaces every tooth; a partial fills gaps where some natural teeth remain. Because the jaw bone reshapes over time, dentures typically need adjusting or remaking periodically.

Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost.

Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway. Do dentures need to be replaced?
Yes, over time. The jaw bone gradually changes shape after teeth are lost, so a denture that fitted well originally becomes loose and needs relining or remaking to fit properly again.
What is the difference between full and partial dentures?
A full denture replaces all the teeth in a jaw, while a partial fills the gaps where some natural teeth remain and clips onto them for support. Which applies depends simply on how many teeth are left and their condition.
What happens during a routine dental examination?
The dentist checks the teeth for decay, examines the gums, looks at any existing fillings and crowns, and screens the soft tissues. X-rays are taken when there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth.

I don't know maybe it's all in my head but I think this dentist purposely messed up my mouth to try to sell me braces. I went in for a simple procedure on my right side a few days later right side fell off. Ok maybe its in my head I go back for the left now my left side is messed up too everything feels off teeth hitting each other went in for adjustments nothing helps. Going to see another dentist a specialist recommended by a colleague. Everything was fine until I came here. I am now feeling suicidal and if I do now need braces I am not coming here to get them. They are not getting any of my money. I rather pull all of my teeth out then come here. Again I can't really prove that this dentist messed me up all I can say is my mouth was perfectly fine my teeth where connecting perfectly until I came here. I just find it suspicious this clinic offers free exams. To get people in the chair to sell them braces.

I was recently at this place and I’m really grateful with the Doctors. On how quick and easy my treatment went. 100% recommended to anyone, best part was the way I was treated it.
